Legal Wedding

megan kyle_29For the legal marriage in Bali, you will be required to have both religious and legal civil ceremony. Subject to Indonesian Marriage Law No.1 of 1974, a couple must have the same religion otherwise one must make a written declaration of changing religion. You must declare a religion out of the five official religions recognized by Indonesian Government, they are : Islam, Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, and Hindu.

The Civil Registry Office can record marriages under those faiths except Islam as for Muslim ceremony is held by an authorized Celebrant from Kantor Urusan Agama (Directorate of Islamic Religion Affairs) which already covers both religious and legal side.

The legal civil ceremony will take place after the religious ceremony which is led by an authorized Celebrant. You will receive one page of marriage certificate from the religious ceremony and two pages of marriage certificates from the civil ceremony. These certificates will be in Indonesian and English and they are already registered under Indonesian Law. For most countries, these certificates are recognized to be registered further and do not need to be translated and legalized. You will need to check with your Embassy/Consulate for the registration procedures.

As for the Muslim couple, you will receive a marriage book called ” Buku Nikah ” issued by Kantor Urusan Agama (Directorate of Islamic Religion Affairs). This book will be in Indonesian only thus you will need to have it translated and legalized.

If you are not Indonesian, you will be required to provide “Notice of Intention to Marry or Certificate of No Impediment”. This is a letter from your Embassy or Consulate representative in Indonesia stating that there is no objection for you to get married in Indonesia.

We will guide and assist you further with the paperwork and the process with the religious representative and the Civil Registry Office.
